Can anyone help me here? The train people don%26#39;t assist at all.
I%26#39;m staying in Vaals, Netherlands and am looking at a day trip to both London and Paris.
I believe I found a train that I can board in Liege and it will take me to London.
I don%26#39;t know where to get on to go to Paris.
Can anyone please direct me on this? Also, is it better to buy the tickets here in the United STates because they say they%26#39;re cheaper or just buy there?
Thanks so much!

I%26#39;m sorry, I meant I found a train that can be boarded at Maastricht to London.....is this true?

There are no trains from Liege to London. You need to take a regualr train from Liege to Brussels-Midi station and there take the Eurostar to London.
Usually the ticket will have the fare from any city to Brussels included.
Same for Paris. Go to Brussels-Midi and take the TGV to Paris.
As with most tickets the longer in advance you buy them the cheaper they could be.
for a day trip to London it seems a bit much, ride from Liege to Brussels is around an hour. Taking into account you are supposed to arrive at Eurostar station 30 min before train departure you have to count on at least departing for Brussels 1.5 hrs before train to London. Add to that the close to 2 hr ride to London this would make for at least 6 hrs of travel for a day trip.

Direct train from Maastricht to London would be a no

Thank you so much for the information. It is so difficult to plan things.
I%26#39;m trying to find day trips. We are staying in Vaals, Netherlands. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

My first recommendation would be to post your questions on the Dutch forum instead of Belgium.
Local people are going to be more able to help than Belgians.

Is it worth travelling 8 hours or so for a day trip. You will hardly see anything of London.
Why not stay overnight.
Try www.seat61.com to get you started.

Note that for Thalys to Paris (which takes 1h22 from Brussels) you would have to book in advance. But as far as I can tell, Vaals doesn%26#39;t even have a railway station! What shows up in the DB website is only a bus station.
It is, of course, very close to the border with Germany, and therefore to Aachen which may be where you are thinking of starting train trips from. So in fact I would ask about day trips in the forum for Germany/Aachen.
Anyway, you can go to Cologne in Germany.
