Hi all, I have a choice of 3 airports %26amp; although I%26#39;ve checked distances on Google maps, I know that facilities like train services to Bruges etc will vary so was hoping you could advise me.
I have the choice of Antwerp (ANR), Brussels Midi (BMI), Brussels (BRU).
I%26#39;m thinking of booking the trip for my husbands Birthday from 11th - 16th December as it%26#39;s our first visit so I want to take in the festive markets %26amp; hopefully some lovely snow!!
Thanks in advance x

It depends on where you are fly in from, how much you want to pay, and where you want to get to in Belgium.
Brussels Midi is a railway station. Antwerp is a small airport served by very few destinations although you can fly there from Manchester on VLM. Brussels Zaventem ( BRU ) is the main airport and so has the most options and connections to the rest of the country.
You might also consider Charleroi Airport, which is to the south of Brussels. Ryaniar fly there.

Sorry - I didnt give you enough info there did I?! I%26#39;m flying from Manchester %26amp; staying in Bruges.
Ryanair are in dispute with Manchester airport so are not accepting bookings for September onwards.
I have seen direct flights through Fly Be to the main airport (BRU) so think I%26#39;ll book them - any idea how long the train journey would be to Bruges?
Thanks for the reply.

About 1.5 hours with one change of trains in Brussels.
There are plenty of train.

BMI is an airline that flies to BRU. The Gare du Midi (= Bruxelles-Midi, Brussel-Zuid, Brussels South) does in fact have an airport code because Air France runs coaches on the TGV to Paris-CDG, and the train ticket is considered like a plane ticket; but it is not BMI, it is ZYR.
If you really were considering coming to Bruxelles-Midi, this implies that you would be travelling via London and coming on Eurostar - although Eurostar doesn%26#39;t use BMI, or as far as I know, any other abbreviation, other than EST which means EuroStar Terminal - although it is part of the Gare du Midi, not separate from it.
Anyway, you would probably do best to fly to BRU, from where there are frequent trains into Brussels where you can change at Nord, Central or Midi for trains to Brugge (twice an hour, going to either Oostende or Knokke/Blankenberge); you can change at any of these 3 stations, trains going to Brugge travel in the same direction as trains coming FROM the airport. Central is reputed to be the easiest to change at, at any rate it is the smallest of the 3.

Thank you KVKFAN %26amp; Qaminari. Very helpful info %26amp; I think I%26#39;m getting a sense of what I need to organise now. Am I right in thinking that I get a train from BRU airpot to Central, then jump on an Oostende or Knokke/Blankenberge bound train that will take me into Bruges?
We are staying just off Grote Markt (in Lut and Bruno Setola%26#39;s B%26amp;B) so I%26#39;m just wondering if we%26#39;ll need to jump another cab or bus after the train.
Thank you again so much x

Hi,
The train journey%26#39;s you mention are correct.
From Bruges train station it%26#39;s a pleasant 15 minute walk to the Grote Mark%26#39;t if the weather%26#39;s fine and you don%26#39;t have too much luggage.
Otherwise it%26#39;s easy to get a cab or a bus into the centre of the city from just outside the train station.
Cheers
Rob

the airport train stops at all bru stations, Nord, Central and Midi, so if you miss one of them, don%26#39;t panic and get off at the next one :)

Really helpful Rob %26amp; KVKFAN. Will print all this info off %26amp; have a look at that link.
Many thanks.

I do not know if this is is a route that would work for you and depends on whether you can both manage with handluggage, there are no direct Ryanair flights from Aberdeen so i go Aberdeen - Dublin - Charleroi the %26quot;total%26quot; cost was about £30, i am using the same route in November to bet back from Maastricht via the train, Charleroi - Dublin - Aberdeen, %26quot;total%26quot; cost this time £15.
At than price its worth a look if like me you can fly via Dublin and manage to get a connecting flight on the same day, eh i noticed Ryanair fly from Liverpool to dublin just a suggestion.
