Bruges-Brussels-Paris on Thalys - leave time for check in?

Hi,

I will be traveling from Bruges to Paris via Brussels on August 21st. The Thalys train departs Brussels at 12:13pm. At what time should I be at Brussels Midi station? Is there a long check-in process? And how far away is the Thalys platform from the platform where the Bruges train will arrive?

According to the train schedule, there is a Bruges-Brussels train that arrives at 11:28am, and before that a train that arrives at 10:55am. Which one would be better?

Thanks for your advice!

%26lt;%26lt;%26lt; Thalys is a service that is accessible without prior check-in as is the case for a plane journey.

You can therefore arrive at the train with your ticket without any formalities.

Thalys has always aimed to satisfy its customers to the best of its ability.

This tradition of comfort and service is respected by our staff.

In Comfort 1, our hostesses and stewards are available to help you board the train, welcome you aboard and show you to your seat.

All our staff speak several languages, and do their best to make your journey a pleasant one.

Our Train Managers will welcome you, provide information and if necessary give you assistance.

They will also check your ticket.

You must respect the fare conditions of your ticket and travel in the train for which the ticket has been issued. If necessary you must produce the necessary evidence for a special fare.

There doesn%26#39;t seem to be check-in process.

There isn%26#39;t a check-in procedure for Thalys: there is for Eurostar, partly because it is to the UK which is outside the Schengen passport union so there are 2 sets of passport controls, and also because the train goes through the Channel Tunnel so there are security checks. For Thalys, you just have to find the right platform (which will be between 3 and 6) and get on the train. Your ticket will be checked on the train itself.

I don%26#39;t know which platform the Brugge train arrives at but I think the highest platform number at Midi is 18 so it can%26#39;t be more than about 10 platforms away. You just come down into the main concourse and look for the Thalys platforms (head towards Eurostar Terminal which is easy to see, also lowest platform numbers/rue de France): the exact platform for your train departure will be shown on the departure board in the main concourse and also at the bottom of the escalator to the platform concerned.

Arriving at 11.28 leaves more than enough time to find the right platform for a 12.13 departure.

I am amused by %26quot;Thalys is a service that is accessible without prior check-in as is the case for a plane journey.%26quot;

I think this is a mistranslation and that they mean UNLIKE for a plane journey! In other words, %26quot;check-in as for a plane journey%26quot; doesn%26#39;t apply when taking Thalys.

Either that or the people who run Thalys never travel by plane!

Thank you! You have been so helpful! I%26#39;m so glad I%26#39;m able toget information like this from locals and experienced travelers before arrival - it makes life so much easier!

To the last poster, check the website seat61.com for great directions on buying tickets from the US. To the OP, I was on that same Thalys this summer - I took the earlier train because I am always nervous about missing connections, but the later train would have been plenty of time. There is no check-in procedure, but you do want to be on the train in enough time to get your luggage onto one of the racks. It was easy to find where the Thalys trains board from, and then I just waited there until the track was listed. The people working there are also very good about telling you the specific track number.
