Hello...does anyone know of any hotels in Bruges that still have rooms for smokers ? ( 4 star if any still do it )
Thanks

Hi Chere
We%26#39;ve just returned from 4 days in Ostend and, although I cant recommend anywhere in Bruges, we found Belgium still allows smoking in many areas.
Our hotel room in Ostend was provided with an ashtray and most restaurants and bars had smoking and non-smoking areas. I would imagine Bruges would be much the same.
I suggest finding a few hotels you like the look of and e-mail them to ask if they have smoking rooms as an option.
It was our first visit to Belgium, by the way and absolutely loved it. We did a day trip to Bruges and Ypres - both were beautiful towns. We bought our tobacco in Bruges in a little shop on T Z%26#39;and for £3.95 for a 50gm packet as opposed to £11.20-odd here. Will be posting a review shortly.
Hope you have a good time.

oh thanks ever so much for that reply...so helpful :) We did manage to find an hotel that permits smoking in Bruges. Is it nice in Ostend ? We might do a day trip there ( thanks for the baccy prices , hubby smokes golden virginia so that will be cheaper I am sure )

Hi. The tobacco we bought in Bruges was Golden Virginia for £3.95 a packet, so a fantastic saving. Having read reviews on daytripper etc. we took sterling cash and it cost us £395 for 100 x 50gm packs. They tend to give a better rate if you pay in £%26#39;s. We didnt go to Adinkerke although that is the place most people seem to go for tobacco. Ostend had tobacco for £4.50.
We really liked Ostend. Not as quaint as Bruges or Ypres, but quite a compact town centre. It has a lovely little marina with some really expensive-looking big yachts. There are a couple moored there you can look round - the Mercator and the Amandine. Also a pretty station and a lot of chocolatiers in Kapellestraat and a pretty central square called Wapenplein with lots of eating places. Behind the casino there is a very long promenade along the seafront with loads of tea rooms/snack bars. There are also a couple of parks on Leopold II Laan, which was where our hotel was, one with a famous floral clock. Note - there is a lot of building work going on though, which will probably be finished by the summer.
The best places we found to eat were Bistro Beethoven, just up from the station near St Peter and Pauls church for evening meal - steak and fries. And the Chamonix on the beach front for waffles and lunchtime/teatime snacks. Both have a canopied outside area where you can smoke with your meal and are comparatively reasonably priced (nowhere in Belgium was particularly cheap to eat or drink).
I%26#39;ll post some pictures over the weekend and will send you a link. I%26#39;d recommend it as somewhere different to historic Bruges to visit if you like maritime places.

sounds like you had a lovely time :) Thanks for taking the time to tell me all that...think we will definitely make a day trip out to Ostend on that recommendation.

Let us know what it%26#39;s like when you come back - we might well stay in Bruges next time. Thinking of going again next year, maybe for 2 weeks and exploring Germany, Austria, Luxembourg as well.

I will post a review when we return but we don%26#39;t go until September !
Hotel Navara looks lovely...too late now though as we have already booked Golden Tulip. I am sure we will enjoy ourselves anyway, Bruges looks gorgeous and we will go to Ghent too as I want to visit the castle there.

G.V. is £3.70 per 50g in the shops that sell just tobacco (Bruge, Adinkerke, Ostend etc etc).
Amber Leaf is £3.

I think that is cheaper than Spain now !!
