Hi all, I have booked my accommodation, we%26#39;re staying at B%26amp;B Lut %26amp; Bruno Setola - their correspondence speed along with amazing reviews was a clincher.
Anyway, I%26#39;m now planning the big save. We are coming from Liverpool for 5 nights in December %26amp; I cant find guides anywhere as to the average spend for a tourist (this is something I%26#39;ve found really useful when travelling to other cities.)
Can anyone give me a rough guide on an average days spend for lunchtime waffles/pancakes %26amp; a coffee, a museum, a reasonable evening meal for 2 (we%26#39;re not ones for fancy restaurants) %26amp; a good few beers?
Any estimates would be really helpful.
Thank you.

I would also appreciate this information!

Hi,
Unfortunately Bruges is not the cheapest place in the world to eat and drink. The useless exchange rates for the UK are not helping either.. Take a look at this site http://www.cambrinus.eu/ it%26#39;s a well known brasserie in Bruges and reasonably priced. The menu will give some idea of prices you can expect to pay.
Best advice I can give is keep off the main Mark%26#39;t square. The prices come down a little and food wise the quality increases (with the exception of craenenburg for lunch or an evening snack http://www.craenenburg.be/)
I usually reckon on around £160 a day. That gets lunch for 2 with 3 or 4 beers, a couple of beers before dinner and a nice 3 course evening meal with some wine and also leave a little for some chocolates and maybe a few beers which you%26#39;ll without doubt want to buy and bring home with you.
Also, for bringing beer back try and avoid the specialist beer shops (although they are great to look around and do have things you won%26#39;t find in the supermarkets) and check out the supermarkets on Steenstraat (GB Express) and Geldmuntstraat (Delhaize Proxy) and also Delhaize on Oude Burg. The bottles of beer can be purchased for roughly a third of the cost as from the beer shops.
Hope this helps.
Regards
Rob

Thats a great help N8RJG, I%26#39;m planning on taking £1000 for the 5 nights so hopefully we will be ok.
The Euro exchange is such a killer at the min but we cant let it stop us! Ha, thanks for the tip on the restaurant as well, I%26#39;ll check that out now.
Thanks again.

Hi,
No problem. Yes, the exchange rate is a killer. I%26#39;m off to Bruges this weekend though so it%26#39;s best to just not think about it!!
The best way to get best exchange rate is draw your money out of a cash machine whilst there if you have a card like a Nationwide Cashbuilder account they don%26#39;t charge for using ATM%26#39;s abroad. I do this to get a small amount of Euro%26#39;s as cash for drinks etc but all meals and larger purchases I put on a credit card. If you pick one that charges 0% for foreign transactions it can save quite a bit of money when you add it all up at the end of your stay.
Cheers
Rob

Hi
Typically prices are outside all of the cafes and restaurants so you can get a feel before you go in for the food, not necessarily for drinks.
Away from the real touristy places ball park prices are:
Beers
- Standard small draught beer €2
- Bottled beers €3 - €5
Coffee €2 - €4
A lot of bars do food which tends to be reasonable value, things like:
- Lasagne \ Spagetti Bolognese - €8-€10
In reasonable restaurants main courses are in the €15-€25 range, but a lot also do fixed price menus 2/3 courses for not much more.
- Mussels and Chips - €18 - €22
Chips from the 2 wagons in front of the Belfry are great. Middle size €2.5 (0.60c for sauce \ mayo)
Bars and Restaurants around the main square are relatively expensive. The fixed price menus look good value, but the drinks are higher priced which bumps the bill up.
If you move a street or two away the prices tend to drop.
Bars and restaurants around the Fish Market (Viz Markt) are generally better value than those in Markt square.
Personally I find the following good value:
FNAC (Markt) Record Store - Cafe on one of the upper floors.
De Republiek - Sint-Jakobsstraat - Cafe (Lunch \ early dinner)
De Gastro - Braambergstraat - Restaurant (Fixed price menus for lunch and dinner)
Da Vinci for Ice cream - Geldmuntstraat (€2 - €5)
Bars and restaurants around the Fish Market (Viz Markt) are generally better value than those in Markt square.

Thank you all for posting the information! I%26#39;m quickly begining to realize I%26#39;ll need more cash than I thought and I won%26#39;t be splurging on any nice meals out! Chocolate and beer to bring home are nicer than an expensive dinner there IMO.

We just got back from 2 1/2 days in Bruges. Here is what we spent:
Food and drink for 2 people - 257 euro. Breakfast was included with our hotel. For our meals, we went middle of the road budget-wise and drank beer with almost every meal plus a couple between meal stops for pancakes and hot chocolate or a couple beers.
Sightseeing - 100 euros total, which included a bike tour, 2 museums, climbing the belfry, and a tour of the Halve Maan brewey.

Wow, didnt expect such a good respose on this one. Thank you so much Rob (again!) KVKFAN %26amp; november_moon. Absolutely great info %26amp; I feel a lot happier now as Brugge doesn%26#39;t seem to be a expensive as Barcelona was last year.
Thanks for the restaurant %26amp; cafe recommendations too, I%26#39;m making a list so will try %26amp; fit them all in ;-D

I went with my Mum for a 3 night break in July and we spent £50 a day each. Breakfast included at our hotel, a mid morning drink (coffee, hot choc or beer), pub/bar lunch generally a sandwich or salad with a beer or soft drink, 2 course dinner with wine but not at expensive places plus sightseeing every day including a canal boat tour, brewery tour, choco story, hospital museum, taxi from station, bus back to station.

Liverpool...you say the exchange rate is bad. Maybe I am missing something but when i put 1,000 pounds into the currency converter it comes out to 1,147€. The is MORE euro than pounds. If I use $1,000 US, I get only approx 700€. I wish our exchange was as good as yours.
