Belgium to Prague to Berlin

Hi all.

Am starting in Paris in late September, and want to end up visiting Prague, and Berlin. Will try to take a 3 or 4 day breakout flight to St. Petersburg (probably out of Berlin on Air Berlin).

Wondered if someone knew the ease of travelling by day from Belgium to Berlin and Praugue - not necessarily in that order.

Have a romantic idea of hopping on a train, getting off in a smaller village along the way (or larger city), visit for a day, then move on.

And to top if off, if anyone can recommend a good place to get married - I know it sounds off the wall, but we%26#39;d love to do it that way... :-)

Thank you all for your comments and suggestions.

That%26#39;s the best site about trains on the internet.

Thank you - this is a very good site!!

So you speak either Russian, Czech, Flemish, French or German then? Can%26#39;t imagine that you would be able to get married just like that. Even in Vegas you have to get a licence.

It%26#39;s a long journey to Berlin from Brussels and probably the Thalys to Koln then City Nightline overnight train from Koln to Berlin. Koln (Cologne) is a nice place to visit. The cathedral is worth a look on it%26#39;s own. It%26#39;s massive.

It is easy to travel from Paris to Brussels to Berlin (changing in Cologne) to Prague by train, you can just look up the timetables on the DB website. However unless you will be using a pass, you will have to decide in advance which smaller villages or other cities you want to visit on the way, and of course check which trains require reservations (e.g. Thalys from Paris to Brussels and Thalys/ICE to Germany).

You can%26#39;t get married in Belgium without one of you establishing residence here first. There is an old thread somewhere on here about getting married in Brugge, in which the documentary requirements are set out. These include getting all your documents - birth certificate etc. - translated into Dutch, if you were to get married in Flanders, and legalized. I imagine there is a similar rule in the other countries you want to travel through - certainly in the Czech Republic the rules are similar: weddingchaos.co.uk/wedding-abroad/prague-wed…

(aimed at UK citizens but you will get the gist).

Europe does not have anything similar to Las Vegas in this respect!

Gretna Green in Scotland is a famous place to get married.

Not sure it is still romantic, though. If you want details of what you need to do, read the site of the Registrars of Scotland, who officiate at, and control weddings on Scotland.

this is another very good site for rail travel and they don%26#39;t try to flog raileurope passes.

|||

Does seat61 try to flog passes?

and it advertises Raileurope at every turn, but it does have some useful information.

From Brussels to Prague, you can fly via Skyeurope (www.skyeurope.com)

From Prague to Berlin, you can take the train which will take 4.5 hrs. If you are lucky you can get train ticket at 19 euros (which I did). Try out website www.db.de

Well you are in Berlin and Prague, there%26#39;s a free walking tour which earns on tipping only. WWW.neweuropetours.eu I have been joining the walking tour for couple. Very interesting, and the guides are great.

Alternatively, you can fly to Berlin from Brussels via Easyjet.. and take the reverse route to Prague

Note that Sky Europe is in financial difficulties, its operations at Vienna airport have just been suspended for unpaid debts. If it is operating, however, at least it flies from Brussels Airport (BRU) not Charleroi (CRL), also known as Brussels South.

Wizz Air, which is currently honouring Sky Europe tickets from Vienna, also flies to Prague (but not Berlin) from CRL: remember to factor in time and cost of getting to CRL from Brussels, which takes about an hour by coach from Bxl Midi: http://wizzair.com/

Germanwings flies to Berlin Schönefeld (SXF) from Prague.
