Bruges or Brussels

Looking to go to belgium for 3 days at the beginning of September. Trying to decide whether to stay in Bruge and spend 2 days there and 1 in Brussels or to stay in Brussels and spend 2 days and 1 day in Bruge. Which place has the most attractions to occupy 2 days and can the remaining day to justice to whichever town is left?

Look in %26quot;things to do%26quot; list in Brussels and Brugge forum respectively and at:

For what it%26#39;s worth, i%26#39;ve been through all of the TA threads on this topic - and have tried to plan every last detail.

we are going to Belgium for 3 days in between AMS and Paris, and home base will be Brussles, with 1 day of that, then 1 day of Bruge, and 1 day of Ghent, via the trains.

For what it%26#39;s worth (as it is a personal opinion - everyone has their own likes/dislikes) I would spend 2 days in Bruges %26amp; travel to Ghent for 1 day (or vice versa)

There is PLENTY to do in Bruges or Ghent for 2 days %26amp; it is so picturesque whereas we were disappointed as a family with Brussels - don%26#39;t get me wrong, the Grand Place is very pretty (although surprisingly small) but this is a big, modern, busy city with a lot of space taken by office %26amp; political buildings

Bruges is very touristy but exceptionally beautiful, Ghent every bit as beautiful but not so touristy but I feel for a first trip %26amp; impression of medieval Belgium you would not go wrong with these 2 places

Hope this helps

I also agree and recommend to stay in Bruges. I was in Bruges last year for 3 nights and fell in love with it there. I will be going back next month and staying for 5 nights and doing day trips to Ghent and Antwerp.

Bruges is just so picturesque!

I think it depends on what you are looking for. We spent 4 nights in Brussels and 3 in Bruges - thoroughly enjoyed both places.

Brussels is definitely a large city with lots and lots of political buildings - being the center of the EU and all that. There is also the old town, some nice parks, churches, plenty of museums, etc. It is a very diverse city with lots of different types of places to eat and shop. If you want nightlife, Brussels is the place to be of the choices - we found plenty of good bars and pubs that stay open quite late, several with live music. I have heard there are decent clubs too, but we aren%26#39;t into that scene so much.

We went to Bruges after Brussels and before Amsterdam and found it to be a good place to relax and recharge between cities. It is a very charming place, touristy but quiet in the evenings, lots of fun, and very picturesque. Our %26quot;nightlife%26quot; there consisted of a few quiet bars and wandering the quiet streets in the evenings soaking up the atmosphere.

I%26#39;ve been to both ard enjoyed both..however, I did enjoy Brugge more - see my go-list below for additional info.
