Wine bars in Gent

Hi I appreciate Belgium is the land of beer! But can anyone recommend some good places to drink wine, not necessarily restaurants but somewhere serving good wines by the glass. I have researched Vintage but any other recommendations would be appreciated.

I don%26#39;t know any specialist wine bars in the centre of Ghent, but all continental cafés serve wine, they are not in fact normally as focussed on beer as are English pubs! Try the Pakhuis (café next to the restaurant of that name) www.pakhuis.be, it%26#39;s in a little street near McDonalds.

Also the bar of the theatre in St. Baafsplein.

Het Verdronken Land is a tapas bar that I am told serves good Spanish wine, it%26#39;s at Steendam 57 near the Vrijdagmaarkt.

As for restaurants, Belga Queen offers Belgian wines (yes, they do exist!) - but cheats a bit by extending this to wine from vineyards outside Belgium, owned by Belgians.

Thanks I had looked at the Pakhuis yesterday and am looking forward to trying it and also like the sound of trying Belgian wine.

I have been to Belgium many times so appreciate that most cafes sell wine, however (in my opinion) its not always the greatest.

When I have been to Bruges there is a fabulous wine bar called Wine Bar Est which I often frequent and was wondering whether Gent had anything similar.

You have given me a few options so thanks for this!

I know there%26#39;s a champagne bar on Onderbergen. The bar of the Opera House looks as if it%26#39;s got a good wine selection. And I know Belga Queen is famed for its beers but it has a lovely bar on the top floor that has a good selection of wines and spirits.
