Help with daytrip

Hi there!

Me and a group of friends are going to stay in Brussels 2 nights and 3 days (3-5 October). We were planning on visiting Brussels on 3 and 5 October, as it is our first day there. On the second day, 4th October, we were planning to do a day trip, but we are not sure which place should we visit. We were previously in Ghent, Antuerp and Brugges, so we want to go to a different place in Belgium or, maybe, in Holland, as it is not far.

We want to travel by train!

Which place do you advise us?

Thanks in advance!

You could go to Ypres - there are some direct trains, about 1.5 hour each way.

We went to Mechelen a couple of weeks ago (will try and do a trip report when I can get myself together!) and it was lovely.

Only a 25 min/half hour train journey from Brussels

Thanks for your ideas...keep sharing them :) I will search about your suggestions!

I forgot to say that my hotel is very close to Brussels Central, so I%26#39;d prefer to take a train on this station.

I was wondering about Liege (morning) + Maastrich (afteernon) in a day...is it possible and is it a nice trip? Another idea is to visiting Waterloo and something else in this day...what you think?

Sorry for so many questions and thanks in advance!

Waterloo is a great place to live, work, shop, but the only tourist place would be the battlefield which I am not sure is worth a visit. But it is only about 20 minutes by train from Brussels and it is a lovely town. It has one of the best English private schools and very much prefered by expats to live in and in the neighbouring areas.

And do you think it is possible to visit Waterloo in the morning and another place in the afternoon, then come back to Brussels? And if you think so, what place besides Waterloo you recommend me?

Thanks!

All depends where you are staying! Trains are good and I have a lot of suggestions...I am sure our qaminari will have others........

I am staying near the Grand Place, in a hotel called Saint Nicola (you heard about it?)... So, basically, I will be staying in the city center!

I am looking forward for your helpfull suggestions :)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/La_Hulpe - this is another place worth visiting, about 10 km from Waterloo, on a nice day. Also a lovely walk around the lake in Genval (again nearby).http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lake_Genval

Both towns have railway stations but not close to the sites.

You would have to use taxis, so not a real choice for you.

I would love to go to the places you mentioned, but this goes hard because they are difficult to reach only by train...so, I was thinking about Liege + Namur... is this a nice trip? And what can i see in both places with not much time? thanks!
