Ascension Day in Bruges

New to the Belgium and Bruges forum and would appreciate some advice as we start our plans for visiting Bruges over Ascension Day.

Recently attendeed a presentation by a travel writer and she mentioned Ascension Day festivities in Bruges. We have visited Bruges in the past (many decades ago), love the city, would like to re-visit, and this seems a wonderful time to do so. We are trying to line this up with a cruse leaving Amsterdam so we thought we would arrive in Brussels, take a train to Bruges for several days including Ascension Day, then travel on to Amsterdam for the cruse.

Would appreciate any advice on the best days of the celebration, the best (reasonable) place to stay, and places to see and visit or the best locales to take in the festival. Mostly interested in photography. Thanks.

Procession of the Holy Blood will take place on 13 May 2010, see http://www.holyblood.com/EN/0.asp (various details at the bottom). It is only on on one day so there is no problem with the best days of the celebration.

I don%26#39;t think it matters where you stay as Brugge is a very small town. There are stands for watching the procession but you can%26#39;t book these until March. This is for this year (2009): www.brugesinfo.com/procession-holyblood.php

Just make sure you do the reservations in time, as hotels at Ascension Day are booked out quickly. Also, you probably would prefer a hotel inside the old city walls.
