Hello,
I just got back from a 4 day trip of Belgium and for anybody out there who hates planning, I would like to share my itineraries that hopefully can help you including which one particular restaurant to avoid. First, we picked the Marriott hotel at Rue A. Orts because it is centrally located in the city (stores, restaurants, and places of interest). We arrived late in the evening. We wanted to see Amsterdam/Holland but none of us wants to drive, so, from home, we made arrangement through the internet %26quot;Brussels City Tour%26quot; which took us to Amsterdam for $55.00 per person. The round trip time was close to 11 hours. The third day was spent walking places of interest in the city. By the way, McDonald restaurant is just beside the hotel, hurray for that!!! If you follow McDonald%26#39;s direction, and cross the street, there is a a reasonably price, very tasty and customer friendly restaurant called %26quot;PIAZZA ITALIA%26quot;. Taste their lasagna first and decide whether you would like to came back again the next day which we did, by the way! We tried their steak, pasta with clams, mussels and was not disappointed by their menus. The price is very reasonable too!
For our last night, the four of us, decided to try restaurants that%26#39;s lined up on those little street close to the big plaza. A persistent waiter got us to their restaurant called %26quot;LA MOULE PROVENCALE%26quot; cross street is %26quot;RUE DES DOMONICAINES%26quot;. BEWARE!!! This place although it advertise that they accept American Express would not take our card after we were done with dinner and their excuse was they just haven%26#39;t changed their menu book to reflect that they do not carry the cards. We were also charged for 3 orders of paellas instead of two(the minimum order to make this dinner is for two people. We also ordered two onion soup by the way. But the real rudeness award, if there is one, is when they started flickering/turning off the lights while we were still eating outside because I guess, it is closing time and this is their way of letting us know to hurry up! This discomfort after dinner lasted another 25-30 minutes of everybody%26#39;s valuable time figuring out how this dinner was going to be paid. We ended up paying in dollars. So, for you out there, you had been warned!!!

I don%26#39;t know how many times I and others on here and VT have warned people NOT to eat at the restaurants in rue des Bouchers, petite rue des Bouchers etc., in the Ilôt Sacré area near the Grand%26#39; Place, which are known for cheating tourists; no local would ever eat there other than at known standards which do not have waiters outside trying to get you in (e.g. Chez Léon, Aux Armes de Bruxelles), and which largely specialise in BELGIAN cuisine. Rue des Dominicains is the continuation of petite rue des Bouchers. And a place called La Moule Provençale, serving paella, is only %26quot;Belgian%26quot; by virtue of being physically located in Belgium. Like a French (or France, if you prefer) restaurant in the U.S. is American.

Hi Qaminari,
Thanks for reading my input! Too bad that I did not come across yours way before I visited Belgium otherwise, of course, we would have avoided the streets you mentioned and it could have saved us a lot of the grief we encountered with that particular restaurant. They sure give the place a bad name! Other than that....we enjoyed the visit and looking forward for another tour of the city in the future. Thanks for the warning. I will remember it in our next visit.

they just got me 10 minutes ago.
I think they%26#39;re really bad people.
(I think most of them are not original belgian.)
I had just nice mussel dishes in dusseldorf germany
for 12 Euros yesterday.
Here The street, I payed 25 Euros and that the quality was so poor, i couldn%26#39;t finish just half of them.
and a glass of beer for 8 euros.
they smiled and bahaved so nicely before i got in their restaurant but as soon as i sat at table and got some dishes, they got changed.
even worse they seemed threatening people if they refuse the solicit.
In the morning I just impressed by nice people in Hoegaarden which is famous belgian beer,
but here in brussels, just got upset.

We walked through Rue de Bouchers and I was really turned off by the waiters trying to get people into their restaurants. They are so PUSHY.
