Weekend in Bruges

Hi, We are planning to visit Bruges in the first weekend in November. Are the weekend crowds more of a summer thing or all year round? We think we will rent a car and drive from Den Haag to Bruge Friday night. This will give us more flexibility for our return to Amsterdam airport for a departure on Monday. Would appreciate any comments about our plan. Thanks, M%26amp;M

More of a summer thing, but still a possibility on LONG weekends, so if you mean the weekend of 31/10-1/11, you should note that as 1/11 is usually a public holiday, this year it will fall on Monday 2/11 instead; but if you mean the weekend of 7-8/11 it shouldn%26#39;t be a problem - although as Wednesday 11/11 is also a public holiday, you never know how many people will be %26quot;bridging%26quot; who might therefore feel like travelling to Brugge. Normally you would not expect enormous crowds in Brugge in November, though.

Thank you for the info regarding the weekend of 7-8 November in Bruges. Will plan accordinly. M%26amp;M

I find Sunday mornings very quiet in Brugge, it tends to start building up around 11am or even later. The canal boat tours don%26#39;t seem to start in earnest until after lunchtime and the restaurants start to fill up with the %26#39;after church%26#39; crowds before getting filled with tourists.

The tourist coach park is a fair distance south of the centre and most visitors begin with a walking tour around the streets before being deposited in the Markt by noon. They often don%26#39;t arrive in the centre until the morning has gone as the guides meander them around Wijngaardplein and Dijver for the early part of the day. Restaurants further away from the main square will be quieter for most of the time, especially in November and their prices are lower as well.

If you are in Brugge for the weekend make the most of a Sunday morning if you are concerned about the crowds.

I thank you very much for the reply to my post about Bruges and the weekend crowds. An early morning stroll sounds lovely! M%26amp;M
