Eurostar to Brussels

I remember catching it some eight years ago now- my cousin who was living in the UK at the time told me not to bother buying a ticket in advance as it was cheaper once you hit the UK.

Is this still the case?

I need to go to Belgium on the 30th of October.

Firstly, you have to buy a ticket in advance as this train is reservation-only, and secondly, as with airlines, the cheaper (and less flexible) tickets sell out early so these can only be bought some time in advance. Therefore while you could probably still buy a ticket on the day of travel, it would normally be the most expensive, fully flexible ticket.

Since you don%26#39;t say how long before 30 October you will be arriving in UK it is impossible to say whether you can wait until then and still get cheaper tickets, but you will find prices on:

eurostar.com/UK/uk/leisure/travel_informatio…

Outside Europe you may find it more convenient to purchase tickets from an agency like Rail Europe, but there should not be any difference in price for these premium trains: and if there is, it is not unknown for Rail Europe to do special offers that are cheaper than what you could get from Eurostar (which also does temporary special offers so you should check their website). So I do not really understand the advice about Eurostar tickets being %26quot;cheaper once you hit the UK%26quot;. What IS true, is that they are often cheaper in the direction UK-continent than the other way around, but that is a different issue.

I hope that by now you have bought your ticket at a reasonable price. It is true that from time to time buying Eurostar tickets in one direction has been cheaper than the other way (if that make sense). Sometimes this has been for marketing reasons and sometimes as a result of currency fluctuations. Also what your friend may have been advising against was buying a ticket through an agency in Australia, or elsewhere, rather than from Eurostar itself. We sometimes forget how much the way in which making travel arrangements through the web has developed over the years.
