Train from Amsterdam to Bruges (and return)?

Hi travellers!

I would like to know the best way to travel from Amsterdam (Central Station) to Bruges, by train? I am told it%26#39;s the InterCity but I cannot find any information on it in English....

Does the train leave from Central Station or do we first need to get a train to Schipol Airport?

Do tickets need to be purchased/booked in advance?

Is it a direct trip, or do we have to stop in Brussels or Antwerp along the way?

Anything else you think I may need to know?

Thanks in advance!

Cheers,

BB.

I don%26#39;t know whether there is a train that will take you between Amsterdam and Bruges without a transfer, but you certainly could take the Thalys train from Amsterdam to Brussels and then transfer to the local train out to Bruges (about an hour). The Thalys part would require a reservation but there are no reservations for the Brussles/Bruges trip (just get a ticket at the station).

I%26#39;ve been looking at trips from Amsterdam to Bruges. You can find the timetable by going to www.ns.nl, then click on %26#39;international reizen%26#39; then (instead of entering the places you are travelling to and from) click on the writing beneath these boxes that says %26#39;internationale reisplanner%26#39; (why it is this complicated, I don%26#39;t quite understand).

If you then type in %26#39;Amsterdam Centraal%26#39; (or whichever station is closest to you) and %26#39;Brugge%26#39; and the date you want to travel, it will give you the timetable. Most trips you need to change in Antwerp, and some require changing in Gent as well. They%26#39;re fairly frequent, however (at least one direct train an hour, it seems).

Hope this helps!

Oh - and it takes about 3.5 hours.

I%26#39;m not sure about booking in advance. Was wondering that myself. It seems that from the website you can only book %26#39;open%26#39; tickets which aren%26#39;t associated with any particular train (only a date), so I%26#39;m assuming you don%26#39;t need to book in advance. Anyone who knows otherwise, however, please let me know.

No, you don%26#39;t have to book in advance for the intercity train. You can buy your ticket in the station on your day of travel. Note that in the Netherlands you cannot use your credit card at the ticket machines. If you want to pay by CC you need to go to the ticket counter and I believe they will charge you 3 euro extra for international tickets compared to machine rate.

Four of us would like to catch a train from Amsterdam to Bruges on 29 February 2008. Would you be able to tell us if this is possible, if so times and prices would be great.

Thank You

Here you go:

Mid-Flex Super Day Return costs 54,60 euro pp. With this ticket you can not travel before 9 am.

High-Flex (full fare) is 84,40 euro pp return.

You can find this information on http://www.nshispeed.nl/en

Fill in %26quot;Amsterdam Centraal%26quot; and %26quot;Brugge%26quot;.

Are you sure you want to do this in one day? The journey takes four hours one-way!

Grave digging... but...

On the NS HiSpeed website, I can only seem to be able to find an option to buy a hi-flex ticket... a mid-flex or a low-flex ticket seems to suit me better...

any hints?

Kind Regards.

teacher2UK, what is your travel date?

I do find mid-flex on various dates, also on weekdays which are usually more expensive than weekends.
