buying diamond jewelry

Any suggestions on stores in Antwerp that feature high style/quality diamond bracelets, necklaces etc. at attractive prices? Do merchants tend to %26quot;bargain%26quot; over price? Thanks!

WARNING: Do not go to a store named Orsini, on the main street in Antwerpe.

We bought my engagement ring there this year and they sold us ring that was meant to have a high quality diamond, we have subsequently found out that they sold us a lower grade of diamond and they won%26#39;t agree to fix the problem. Unfortunately, it has the appearance of a very established jeweller and we bought a number of items there. We were completely conned.

Do not buy anything that comes with a %26quot;shop certificate%26quot;. By the time you arrange for a proper diamond certificate you will find out it is not what you thought you bought and they will claim that it was switched by the person who prepared the certificate.

I%26#39;m sorry you had this bad experience, Kate.

I know the Orsini shop, it has nice windows but it%26#39;s not one of the reputed high quality shops in Antwerpen. It%26#39;s always a bit dangerous to buy diamonds when you%26#39;re not an expert. Especially in Antwerpen where there are hundreds of little diamond shops. I%26#39;m not saying that all of them are crooks but some of them are! The best you can do if you want to buy a diamond is get some information at the Diamond High Council. They will provide you with addresses of reliable companies.

It is dissappointing, however, perhaps it will eventually be resolved. You are right though it is really not something you should do with getting good advice and using someone reliable.

I think it is impossible to be sure that you are somewhere reliable and honest. Unfortunately, there is so much scope for being misled.

I get my diamond engagment ring from Ajediam, diamond cutters, manufacturers, located in the World Diamond Center in Antwerp.

A friend of mine that is a jeweller confirmed to me that the stone is a very good one.

In fact he has asked me for the contact details which I gladly passt on to him. Here is their Web site: www.ajediam.com

My Fiance%26#39; and I just got back from a trip to Amsterdam/Antwerp where I proposed to her. While we were on holiday, we took a day-trip to Antwerp where we wanted to shop around for an engagement ring. We had a very specific style in mind and after a few bad experiences around the station, we found Orsini Diamonds.

The exact ring we wanted was sitting in the window so we went in, and asked to look at the ring under a loupe. The price was better than I had expected and the center stone was %26quot;rated%26quot; D color and VS1 clarity so I was a little suspicious. However, the shop seemed much more legit than many of the other places we had visited and we were offered HRD certification. Based on the other stones I have looked at, I felt that this center stone looked particularly brilliant and could find no imperfections with the loupe (10x I was told). I had seen River, Top Wesselton and Wesselton stones in the white-paper before so I felt confident that the color was accurately represented.

When we had left to think about it and returned, the woman answered some more questions and then rang up the sale. When she provided us the certification, she hand-wrote the card with the diamonds information. I felt a little uneasy at first but put it out of my mind... Now that I%26#39;m home and can read reviews, I%26#39;m starting to feel extremely nervous. Ultimately, we love the ring (and I loved the price) but I want to make sure I got what I paid for...

Am I screwed if this ends up being a fraud? I paid with a credit card if that makes a difference... I literally got off the plane not two hours ago so I will look into getting the ring appraised and post a follow-up.

Buy your diamonds at the source. You will save a lot of money…!

Go to a reliable diamond manufacturer located in the main diamond Bourse in Antwerp. You can choose your jewelry within a very large collection fabulous gold and platinum settings.

In a few hours your diamonds will be set in your jewelry.

You will get there Gia and HRD certificates for your diamonds and a lifetime full money refund guarantee. You can buy at real wholesale prices and they realise your jewelry at no price!

You can contact them through their website where you will find full address + tel numbers: www.ajediam.com

Kind regards, Sarah

Thanks for your reply, but unfortunately, I have already purchased the ring and am back in the states.

Hi, you can contact them - they will accept to exchange your bad buying to a good one on distance. Read their customers feedback from all over the world!

Good luck! Sarah

Got the independent appraisal, as follows (keep in mind this is a bezel set diamond with pave%26#39; so the jeweler couldn%26#39;t remove the stone to inspect it):

Center Stone:

Brilliant Cut

Provisional Carat Weight: 34pt (represented by Orsini @ 56pt)

Provisional Color: G (represented by Orsini @ D)

Provisional Clarity: SI1 (represented by Orsini @ VS1) *I have looked with 8X and 17X loupes and can see absolutely no inclusions or surface imperfections*

The total valuation for the ring came in at roughly 60% higher than what I paid. Ultimately, we love the ring and I still got a good deal, I just didn%26#39;t get what I thought I was getting.

In this case, for those thinking of Orsini Diamonds in Antwerp I will say %26quot;Buyer Beware%26quot;.

hi all,any idea of how much less diamonds are in Antwerp compared to Canada/US? Looking for a .7 or 1Ct Princess-cut and here in Canada they are approximately $5000-$6500 US
