Airport transfer.

Hi All,

Partner and her sisters are planning a weekend away for later in the year. Brussels is looking good but she is put off by the coach transfer from Charleroi to Brussels. I have e.mailed Charleroishuttle who claim they will do a private transfer from the airport and transfer them to the hotel in Brussels and do the return trip a couple of days later. Partner is not to trusting of the offer. Has anyone used the company and what were your experience ? Many thanks in advance for your help.

Regards,

Supervanman.

Why not cut out the Charleroi/shuttle part of the trip and go straight to Brussels (BRU) airport which has frequent, fast and cheap train links into the city centre?

|||

Hi Peter,

Simple answer...price. Aer Lingus is the option into Brussels main airport and they charge a small fortune compared to Ryanair.

|||

I think it%26#39;ll work out much the same as a taxi to/from charleroi.

Picking September at random,every day I checked has DUB-BRU flights for less than 10 euro, and at least 8 days cost Zero euro (just tax to pay).

Seems a bargain.

Firstly, Aer Lingus doesn%26#39;t always charge a small fortune, I know someone who is travelling with them next month for €0 (i.e. paying BRU airport taxes only)! Experiment with different dates and times.

Secondly, it is necessary to consider total cost (and convenience) including the cost of getting from the airport to wherever you are going to (and back, especially if this happens to be early in the morning which may require an overnight stay near the airport concerned..). The train from BRU to the city centre costs €3. From CRL to Brussels, the coach transfer costs €13 and this is in my opinion the easiest way to get to Brussels (I have no idea why other people claim it%26#39;s a terrible service, unless this is because it was cancelled without notice) - but it brings you to Gare du Midi which is not a nice area to stay in so it is necessary to add €1.70 or so for bus/tram/metro (or train, e.g. to Gare centrale) to somewhere else.

I don%26#39;t know the charleroishuttle company, but there are both positive (some sounding suspiciously like advertising) and negative reviews of another company on VT: virtualtourist.com/travel/Europe/Belgium/Pro…

hiya

you can get good deals if your flexi with your dates but if you cant be, aerlingus can charge a arm + a leg. im sure supervanman has priced both airlines, you can fly to charleroi for 20 euro.

anyway i was looking into this last wk, according to the charleroi airport website a taxi will cost 85euro each way, couldnt find a private transfer company anyone could recommened, the shuttle bus is 13euro each way but i hate them!! so that wasnt an option for us we always book private transfers where every we fly. so now we have decided to take the kids to disneyparis again instead got flight for 4 of us+ private transfer from beauvais 325euro airfrance/transfers to cdg would have cost 1130. we fly from shannon so our option are limited. so what im saying is sometimes the ryanair option can save you hundreds or in our case 800euro.

%26quot;you can fly to charleroi for 20 euro. %26quot;

Aer Lingus will fly you to Brussels for nothing (just tax)! And the private transfers would be a fraction of coming all the way from Charleroi.

Hi supervanman,

We flew to Charleroi, Brussels last week with Ryan air. Just to set the record straight I was worried about the transfer before we went as I thought I had booked Brussels airport with the convenient links to the city which is just 9km away. Charleroi is 61 km from Brussels and takes just over one hour to get to the city by shuttle bus which costs 13 euros oneway. The ticket office is on the right as you come through the airport you cant miss it - I think there should be a timetable on the airport website. The bus takes you to midi station. We stayed at the Marriot hotel in the heart of the city - hotel was great - Brussels not so great - very dirty and most expensive place I have ever been 5.70 gb pounds for a beer. Wish we had taken another forum users advise and gone to Brugges for the day. Hope this helps you out.

Should have added taxi costs 140 euros one way city to airport - we were worried about missing our early flight and enquired - we took the bus!!!

Hello All,

Just a few things. I have used both airlines to both airports to visit Brussels. I know how easy it is to travel into the main airport and how much extra time travelling with Ryanair can add to the trip. Now having said that, Aer Lingus are charging more to travel on the dates that Lois Laneway and her sisters/friends are travelling. Ryanair price will come down if they wait and Aer Lingus wont. If they travel with Aer Lingus they will have to be in Dublin airport at about 5 in the morning and will lose a day on the return trip because of flight times. So it looks like they will travel with Ryanair.

I e.mailed Charleroishuttle ( the link is on Charleroi airport web site) they gave me a good price to collect the group (6 adults) from the airport and transfer them to the hotel in Brussels city centre and then do the return trip a few days later. The price will be split between the 6 and will cut out the need to travel on the Ryanair coach and the taxi or underground when in Brussels.

Now back to the question I asked.

HAS ANYONE USED THIS COMPANY ?

DID THEY MEET YOU AT THE AIRPORT ?

DID THEY COLLECT YOU FROM YOUR HOTEL AND RETURN YOU TO THE AIRPORT ?

AND FINALLY, WHERE YOU HAPPY WITH THE SERVICE ?

Many thanks,

Supervanman.

hi peterscot

i understand what you saying yes sometimes aerlingus are the better option, but even the free flights will cost you 80 euro taxes, also not everyone one can be flexi with there dates ie. work commitments ect. i fly with both airlines and in my experience ryanair have better flight times, flights are never delayed and they havnt once lost my luggage every time i fly with aerlingus either one or the other happens dat just my experience with them.. charleroi was my option as ryanair fly there from my nearest airport 20 min away other wise i would hav to drive to dublin 3hrs away to catch a flight to brussels. if i hav a choice of airline like when i go to paris or london i price every thing up, aerlingues are always cheaper to london and ryanair have always cheaper to paris in my experiences.

anyway i know im gone totally off the subject sorry supervanmam. hope you get sorted with the transfers.
